Percy L. Bates, Jr.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Percy Bates Jr., age 87, of Oakvale, MS who passed away on April 8, 2013 at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss, MS. Interment followed at Society Hill Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Tommy Broom and Rev. Jake Staten officiated. Pall bearers were Dale Shaver, Bryan Adams, Caleb Adams, Anthony McDuffie, Brandon Clark, Joe Catoe, Dr. Matthew Powell and Jeremy Asarisi. Honorary pall bearers were Roy Bates Jr., Jerry McDuffie, Jerry Clark and Carroll Butler. Mr. Percy Lee Bates Jr. was born on March 16, 1926 in Richton, MS. He was the son of Percy Lee Bates Sr. and Sadie Mason Bates. He worked as a Diesel Mechanic in the surrounding area for many years before retiring. He enjoyed farming and was a Mason. He was also a member of Society Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Bates is survived by his wife, Velma Bates of Oakvale, MS; his sons, Roy Bates and Royce Bates both of Oakvale, MS; his daughters, Linda Adams of Picayune, MS, Peggy Drewery of Lufkin, TX and Kathy Clark of Sumrall, MS; eleven grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mildred Scott of San Marcos, TX and Pansy Cuevas of Pass Christian, MS.
