Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, 2013 at L. L. Roberts Methodist Church in Bassfield, MS for Mr. Phillip B. Bass, age 63, of Carson, MS who passed away on March 28, 2013. Interment will follow at Society Hill Cemetery. Rev. Glen Shows and Rev. Steve Tillman officiated. Pall bearers were Aaron Bass, Brian Bass, Chris Bass, Scott Bass, Adam Iovino, Jeremy Miller and Brian Robbins. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Phillip Burton Bass was born in New Orleans, LA on September 17, 1949. He was the son of Clifford Bass and Johnnie Hathorn Bass. Raised with an innate love for nature, Phillip began his career as an aquatic biologist. He dedicated 36 years of his life to the betterment of our state through his employment with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and retired in 2006 as the Director of Pollution Control. Phillip then continued to follow his passion with his employment at the US Environmental Protection Agency and was currently serving as Acting Director of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance. He was also a member of L. L. Roberts Methodist Church. Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Jane Bass of Carson, MS; his son, Michael Bass of Florence, MS; his daughters, Lauren Swenson (Shane) of Payton, CO and Megan Taggart (Martin) of Brandon, MS; his three grandchildren—Lane, Caroline and Colton; his brother, Johnny “Cowboy” Bass of Bassfield, MS.
