Lee "Bunks" Rube

Don’t be alarmed if you felt the heavens tremble Tuesday, it was just Bunks Rube making his grand entrance. He was many things to many people – loving husband, adored father, beloved brother, hero grandfather and best friend. He was even blessed with a second chance at love late in life. He brought light and joy to every room and anyone he encountered. Bunks’ was never without a smile or a joke for everyone. To know him was to love him. The love others had for him stands as a testimony to his life. He was a Man among men, larger than life. As the Tin Man once said, “you judge a heart not by how much you love, but how much you are loved by others” which sums up Bunks Rube. Lee Maurice “Bunks” Rube Jr. Was born in 1930 and he entered Heaven on March 26, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.M. And Marye Rube; his daughter Holly Carol; and his wife of 57 years, Peggy Rube. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Sharp of New Hebron; his daughters, Cindy (Don) Wagner of Lynchburg, VA, Melanie Rube of Hattiesburg, and Tammy (Michael) Rice of Brandon; one grandson Jordan (Angela) Wagner of Hanscom AFB, MA; one great grandson Bryce and his precious friend Frances Myers. Bunks served in the US Navy aboard the USS Mississippi and USS Blue from 1952-55 during the Korean War. He served as a Commander of the American Legion and VFW in Lawrence County. He was a masonry contractor. He and his dad created the skylines of Jackson, Birmingham and New Orleans to name a few. He was an active member of New Hebron Baptist Church for many years. Bunks was a founding member of the ‘Has Beens’ and ‘Never Was Crew’ – known for their fierce Domino-playing skills. He loved the Lord our God with all his heart, soul, and mind. He encountered Heaven in 1983 in the form of a near-fatal heart attack. Heaven wasn’t ready, but 30 years and countless testimonies later, Jesus welcomed him with open arms. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, and above all he kept the faith. Funeral services were held Friday, March 29 at New Hebron Baptist Church. Interment followed at New Hebron Cemetery. Rev. Earl Clark and Rev. Derek Lambert officiated. Pall bearers were Ricky Sharp, Randy Newsom, Joey Newsom, Robert Harris and Jordan Wagner.
