Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Bunker Hill Baptist Church in Columbia, MS for Mr. Donald K. Robbins, age 76, of Carson, MS who passed away on February 27. Interment followed at New Bunker Hill Cemetery. Rev. David Perry and Rev. Randy Gardner officiated. Pall bearers were Jimmy McPhail, Kyle Wilks, Keith Armstrong, Charlie Banks, Clark Slonaker, Fred Herrod and Jeff Armstrong. Honorary pall bearers were the members of his Sunday school class. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss is in charge of all arrangements. A native of Jefferson Davis County, Donald Keith Robbins was born on February 22, 1937 in Carson, MS. He was the son of J. L. Robbins and Berteel Garner Robbins. He was a graduate of PRCC and USM. Mr. Robbins worked as a rural letter carrier in Carson, MS for 36 years. He founded the Run for the Roses 5K in Prentiss, now in its 30th year. Through his service as President of the Economic Development Board of Jefferson Davis County and Chamber of Commerce, Prentiss was named a Mississippi “Key Community”. He served on the Foundation Development Board at PRCC, and was a member of the Prentiss Lions Club, Jefferson Davis-Marion County Forestry Association and was President of the Bunker Hill Water Association. Mr. Robbins was an avid outdoorsman and runner. He completed 20 marathons, including the Boston and New York Marathons. He was a Mason and a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. Mr. Robbins is survived by his wife, Floyde A. Robbins of Carson, MS; his son Dr. Brett Robbins (Tisha) of Hattiesburg, MS; his grandsons, Sterling Brett Robbins and Saxon Alexander Robbins both of Hattiesburg; and his sister, Linda Armstrong of Foxworth, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MS Chapter of the ADPA, P O Box 4091, Brandon, MS 39047 or to Bunker Hill Baptist Church, 63 Bunker Hill Road, Columbia, MS 39429.
