Funeral services were held Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Saulters Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Joe H. Bullock, age 87, of Prentiss, MS who passed away on February 21, 2013 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Interment followed at McPhail Family Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Kelly Wheat and Rev. Benji Sessums officiated. Pall bearers were Gary Wheat II, Joseph Bullock, Will Coleman, Tyler Bullock, Brannon Graves, Troy Trout, Michael Sasso and Austin Moore. A native of Jefferson Davis County, Joe Hall Bullock was born on February 17, 1926. He was the son of William David Bullock and Bertha McPhail Bullock of Prentiss. He attended Carson High School. A World War II Veteran, he joined the United States Army in 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater as a member of the 40th Infantry Division. In 1947, Mr. Bullock married June Smith and they had six children. Mr. Bullock worked as a logger for numerous years before becoming a contract poultry producer for 37 years. He served on the ASCS (FSA) Board of Directors for several years and was a longtime member of the Mississippi Cattleman’s Association. Mr. Bullock worked as a poll worker for the County Election Commission at the Granby Voting Precinct. He was a charter member of the Granby Volunteer Fire Department and served as its first fire chief. Mr. Bullock loved his home on Bullock Hill. He enjoyed being a cattle farmer and was an avid gardener. He had a love of history and enjoyed sharing stories of his past experiences with family and friends. He was a member of Carson Baptist Church. Mr. Bullock is survived by his wife of 65 years, June Smith Bullock of Prentiss, MS; his children, Charlotte Wheat (Gary) of Prentiss, MS, Arhonda Coleman (Bill) of New Albany, MS, Martha Stegall (George) of Pontotoc, MS, David Bullock (Kathy) of Prentiss, MS, Greg Bullock (Mitzi) of Sumrall MS and Joe Bullock (Cassie) of Prentiss, MS; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Juanita Kendrick, Waudel Robertson, Cleo Parkman and Doris Butler; one brother, W. A. “Jr” Bullock; and one granddaughter, Shelly Jo Trout.
