Funeral services were held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Whitesand Baptist Church in Prentiss for Mr. Hugh W. Hanberry, age 77, who passed away on February 18 at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS. Interment followed at Whitesand Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Charles Burnham and Rev. Ben James officiated. Pall bearers were Richie Gaule, Jacob Rodrigues, Jim Martin, Jonathan “Cubby” Roman, Albert Roman, Bob Rutherford and Ganes Reed. A native of Jefferson Davis County, Hugh White Hanberry was born on November 4, 1935. He was the son of Thomas S. Hanberry and Lula Mae Bridges Hanberry. As a young man, he began working with a bread company in Jackson, MS and stayed there for eight years. The next four years he worked for various oil companies in Mississippi. He then began working for Dual Drilling Company and stayed with them through twenty eight years of service before retiring. While working for Dual, he became known as “Hugh Baby” and the name stuck! ‘Hugh Baby’ loved to farm and garden, he also liked to drink coffee and visit with his family and friends. Another of his favorite pastimes was listening to gospel music, especially ‘The Gaithers’. He was a member of Whitesand Baptist Church. Mr. Hanberry is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Faye Coulter Hanberry of Prentiss, MS; his daughters, Kathy Madrid of Denton, TX, Pam Luck of Midland, TX and Sheryl Starr of Prentiss, MS; his sons, Allen Hanberry of Euless, TX and Paul Hanberry of Prentiss, MS; and his twenty one grandchildren and twenty five great-grandchildren.
