Funeral services were held at Society Hill Baptist Church in Oakvale on Monday, February 18, 2013 for Mrs. Edith Ellouise Dukes Magee, who passed away at her home on February 16. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. Dr. Jimmy Dukes, Rev. Jake Staten, Rev. L. C. Anthony and Chaplain Don Armagost officiated. Pall bearers were nephews Earl Buckley, Jr. and Mark Saxon, and friends Kent Coleman, Francis Vice, Sr.; Randy Easterling and Jerry Johnson. Honorary pall bearers will be Floyd Terrell Langston, Kent Holmes, Hollis English, Ellis Coleman, Berwick Ostheimer and Jim Waller. Ellouise was born on August 26, 1932, in Smith County, MS to Ruth Ward Dukes and Reverend George Truett Dukes. On her marriage in 1949 to Luther Larue Magee, she moved to the Society Hill community where she made her home for over 64 years. Their favorite “second home” was the Smokey Mountains. She worked in factories in both Columbia and Prentiss; as a dental assistant; and was co-owner of the Sew and Save Fabric Shop in Prentiss. She was an accomplished seamstress who created cheerleader and majorette uniforms for many years for Prentiss High School. Her passion in life besides her Lord and her family was gardening, growing vegetables and flowers. Ellouise was a member of Society Hill Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Mrs. Magee is survived by her daughter Dr. Patricia (Tricia) Magee Bridges and her husband Karon of Hattiesburg; her son George Larue (Sonny) Magee and his wife Lisa of Brandon; her daughter-in-law, Mayo Waller of Prentiss; sisters, Barbara Newman (Johnny) of Brandon and Johnnie Grantham (Melvin) of Vicksburg; and brothers, Dr. Jimmy Dukes of Orlando, FL, and Dan M. Dukes of New Orleans, LA. She is also survived by her very beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: William Karon (Kary) Bridges, Jr., his wife Katie, and children Heath, Ellouise Anne, and Meg of Water Valley; Cathy Michelle Williamson, her husband Michael, and daughters Ashton Finch and Michaela Williamson of Magee; Tricia Diane Crotwell and her daughter Caitlyn of Raymond; Kami Blythe Jones, her husband Josh, and their son Will of Hattiesburg; Michael Dewey Magee, his wife Krista, and son Archer Ayden Magee of Florence, and Koby Rutland of Brandon. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and her care-givers, Nita Upton and Meta Pierce of Society Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Billie Ard and Ann Olsen; two brothers, George Dukes and Paul Dukes, and her grandson, Heath Larue Bridges.
