Elsie Hathorn

A funeral mass was held Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Bassfield, MS for Mrs. Elsie Hathorn, age 76, of Brandon, MS, formerly of Bassfield, who passed away on September 21, 2012 at her residence. Interment followed at St. James Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Father Peter Varghese officiated. Pall bearers were Randy Hathorn, Kim Hathorn, James Fagan, Jimbo Hartzog, Brett Oncale, and Jeremy Fagan. A native of Mississippi, Sarah Elsie Hathorn was born on April 28, 1936. She was the daughter of Nevell Fagan and Eunice Clark Fagan. Elsie had a natural gift for growing things and avidly pursued this passion throughout her lifetime, enhancing the natural beauty and warmth of any home she shared. Mrs. Hathorn was a woman of many accomplishments. At Bassfield High School, she lettered in basketball each of the four years she played. She also attended Hinds Junior College. She worked for Bellsouth Telephone Company as a switchboard operator, moving quickly into a supervisory position. After taking a break for motherhood, Elsie returned to the workforce in real estate, working with Bancorp South mortgage banking and as a real estate broker. She was also a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Mrs. Hathorn is survived by her son, Don Harris (Cheryl) of Houston, TX; her daughter, Karen Donette Harris of Fayetteville, AR; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Harris and Timothy Stevens; her brother, Tom Fagan of Corpus Christi, TX; and her sister, Mary Fagan of New Orleans, LA.
