Katherine Cliburn

Kathleen Mae “Katherine” Steen Cliburn, age 92, of Crystal Springs, passed away on September 18, 2012 at Copiah Living Center. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Old Hebron Baptist Church in New Hebron, MS. Interment followed at New Hebron Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Bro. Terry Phillips and Bro. L. C. Anthony officiated. Pall bearers were John Carney, Michael Steen Lee, Brandon Manley, Kevin Steen, Richard Steen and Joe Ryan McGuffee. Mrs. Cliburn was born in the Bridgeport Community in Simpson County on August 3, 1920 to John and Cora Lee Berry Steen. She attended Bridgeport School. After her marriage, she moved to New Hebron in Lawrence County where she lived until October 2008 when she moved to Copiah Living Center. While her husband was Missing in Action/Prisoner of War in World War II for over two years, she lived in Crystal Springs with her sister, Laverne Steen Lee, and family, and worked at Bernstein Shirt Factory. After her husband’s discharge from the United States Army, she returned to New Hebron and worked many years for New Hebron Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Cliburn was a member of Old Hebron Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served in other activities. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Ellis Cliburn who died in March 1987. Survivors are nieces, Joyce Lee Carney of Crystal Springs, and Betty Ruth Steen Harrelson of Brandon; nephew, Don Edward Lee of Crystal Springs; six great-nephews, six great-nieces, and several great-great nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Hebron Baptist Church, 8691 Highway 42, New Hebron, MS 39140.
