Funeral services were held Sunday, September 16, 2012 at New Hebron Baptist Church in New Hebron, MS for Mr. Kernis Stephens, age 82, of New Hebron, MS who passed away on September 13, 2012 at his residence. Interment followed at New Hebron Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Sonny Adkins officiated. Pall bearers were Cody Williams, Lane Stephens, Randy Stephens, Tommy Russell, Tom Stephens, Travis Polk, Grant Busby, Buckley Magee and Marty Herrington. Mr. Kernis Howard Stephens was born in Silver Creek, MS on December 6, 1929. He was the son of D. E. Stephens and Missy Herrington Stephens. He worked with St. Regis/Georgia Pacific in the shipping department for many years. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was also a member of New Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Kay Stephens of New Hebron; his daughter, Gwen Williams of New Hebron; his sons, Donald “Porky” Stephens and Stanley Stephens both of New Hebron; his stepdaughters, Teresa James of Bruce, MS and Lisa Stodard of Savannah, TN; eight grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren; his brothers, Billy Stephens of Monticello, MS and Roy Stephens of New Hebron; and his sisters Ellisine Saulters and Bertile Polk both of Prentiss, MS and Alfa Mae Reynolds of Monticello, MS.
