Funeral services were held Friday, August 31, 2012 at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mrs. Betty Joe Davis, age 78, of Prentiss, MS who passed away on August 27, 2012 at the JDC Hospital Extended Care Facility in Prentiss, MS. Interment followed at Prentiss Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Ben James officiated. Pall bearers were Clint Langley, Lee Sistrunk, Wes Foster, Tony Russell, Greg Berry, P. K. Berry, John Polk, John Davies and Jimmy Jackson. Betty Joe Davis was born on March 2, 1934 in St. Francisville, LA. She was the daughter of Oscar and Veta Grace Hathorn. She attended Monticello High School and Copiah Lincoln Community College. She had a varied working career in Prentiss, MS. She worked for the Bank of Blountville, Stamps Drug Store, State Farm Insurance and retired from the Jefferson Davis Tax Assessor’s Office. She was also a member of Prentiss Baptist Church. Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Amanda Truesdale (Jimmy) of Coronado, CA; her son James “Jim” H. Davis Jr. (Lori) of Marietta, GA; five grandchildren, James Truesdale, IV, Brooke Truesdale, James H. Davis III, Megan Davis McNabb and Charlie Davis; two great grandchildren; her brother, William Hathorn; and three sisters, Martha Lay of Brandon, MS, Jackie Foster of Prentiss, MS and Glenda Russell of Raymond, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James “Jimmy” H. Davis Sr., and her sister, Billie Nell Russell.
