Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Spurgeon Eugene “Gene” Pace, age 85, of Prentiss, MS who passed away on July 12 at his residence. Interment followed at Bethany Cemetery in Prentiss. Rev. Ben James and Rev. L. C. Anthony officiated. Pallbearers were Jeremy Pace, Jerrick Pace, David Fortenberry, Robert (Buster) Pace, Jim Pace, Daniel Guidry, Noah Pace, Billy Hurst and Mason Hurst. Honorary Pallbearer is Paul Maholm. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. A native of Mississippi and lifelong resident of Prentiss, Spurgeon Eugene Pace was born on January 31, 1927. He was the son of Spurgeon Erastus Pace and Alma Roberts Pace. He was a Life of Georgia agent in Prentiss for more than thirty years. He was a bailiff for the Jefferson Davis Circuit Court and served on the Board of the NE Jefferson Davis Water Association. He was also a Mason and a former member of the Lions Club of Prentiss. He attended Prentiss Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon and a member of the church choir. Mr. Pace is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Lillian Fortenberry Pace of Prentiss, MS; his daughter, Anna Pace Hurt (Ed) of Ocean Springs, MS; seven grandchildren, Jana Hurt Grenn, Jessica Hurt Maholm (Paul), Jeremy Pace (Amy), Jerrick Pace (Kristin), Candace Hurst, Amanda Hurst Guidry (Daniel), and Billy Hurst and eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Jimmy Pace (Linda) of Prentiss, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jerry Wayne Pace, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Pace Hurst and brothers, Billy Pace and Robert Pace.
