A funeral mass was held Monday, June 18, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Bassfield, MS for Mrs. Maxie Kerley, age 84, who passed away June 14, 2012 at The Myrtles Nursing Home in Columbia, MS. Interment followed at St. James Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Father Tommy Conway officiated. Pall bearers were Jimmy Kerley, Jason Kerley, Jonathan Kerley, Kevin Kerley, Seth Joyner and Billy Delancey. Maxie Pearl Kerley was born in Columbia, MS on April 25, 1928. She was the daughter of Louis Barnett and Hattie Tolar Barnett. She worked as a Supervisor with Midland Shirt Factory in Bassfield. She was member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Her hobbies included gardening and candy making. She loved to give flowers to everyone. Mrs. Kerley is survived by her sons, Danny Kerley (Belinda) of Marion, MS and Johnny Kerley (Judy) of Bassfield, MS; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lucille Barnett Flynn of Columbia, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John “Jack” Kerley, her daughter, Jackie Shivers, a sister and four brothers.
