Funeral services were held Friday, February 17, 2012 at Santee United Methodist Church in Bassfield, MS for Mr. Jimmy Ray Garner, age 69, who passed away on February 13, 2012 at the MS Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. Interment followed at King Family Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev Vickie Landrum, Rev. Sessions Polk and Mr. Joe Mullins officiated. Pall bearers were Skip Little, C. R. Little, Blayne Jones, John F. King, Alex Cosmich, Charlie Chastain and Matt Dean. A native of Jefferson Davis County, Jimmy Ray Garner was born on July 17, 1942 in the Granby Community of Prentiss, MS. He was the son of Ray and Annie Lou King Garner. He graduated from Prentiss High School in 1960 and then attended Pearl River Junior College. He began his career with the MS Highway Department drafting road maps in Jackson, MS before moving back to his hometown. He cared for and lived with his parents for several years before their deaths. In November 2000, he moved to the Jackson/Clinton, MS area where he resided until the time of his death. Jimmy Ray’s life on earth came to an end after a courageous three year battle with cancer. His spiritual strength, courage and belief in God touched so many lives during this time as it did throughout his lifetime. The families deepest appreciation goes out to the many individuals who assisted with his care over the last three years including, Dr. Wilkerson and the Jackson Oncology Group; Radiology/Oncology Group; Baptist Wound Care Center; West Jackson Medical Group; MS Baptist Hospital and Hospice Ministries, Inc. of Ridgeland, MS. Mr. Garner is survived by his four sisters, Syble G. Jones (Buster) of Natchez, MS, Shirley G. Thiac (Philip) of Jackson, MS, Sandra G. Little (Harvey) of Jackson, MS, and Sarah G. Pardue (Douglas) of Hattiesburg, MS; two aunts, Linda Lois King Miller (Bobby) of Bassfield, MS and Evelyn King Gatewood of Carson, MS; five nieces, Kathy Jones Campbell (Rich) of Oklahoma City, OK, Renee and Michelle Thiac both of Jackson, MS, Angele Thiac Dean (Matt) of Lakeland, FL and Angela Hill Pardue King (John) of Monticello, MS; three nephews, Jason Jones (Kim) of Monroe, GA, H. R. “Skip” Little Jr. (Sarah) of Berea, KY and C. R. Little (Tiffany) of Jackson, MS and numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
