Funeral services were held Friday, January 20, 2012 at Saulters Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Vernon “V. L.” Terrell, age 88, of Prentiss, MS who passed away on January 17, 2012 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Interment followed at the Terrell Family Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Bobby Brewer, Rev. Diana Deaton and Rev. B. J. Barrett officiated. Pall bearers were Ryan Abplanalp, Joe Bullock Jr., Kaleb Hill, Rick Hobson, James C. Wilson, Anthony Terrell and Charles Myers. A native of Jefferson Davis County, Mr. Vernon “V. L.” LaGrange Terrell, Jr. was born on December 15, 1923. He was the son of Vernon L. Terrell, Sr. and Berta Smith Terrell. After graduation from high school, he attended Mississippi State University. He joined the US Air Force in 1943, was a decorated World War II veteran and a member of the 8th Air Force. While serving in the Air Force, he flew 33 bombing missions as a top torrent gunner over German occupied Europe. He married the former Lela Carolyn McNease and they had three children; Vernon LaGrange Terrell, III, Stephen Douglas Terrell and LeAnn Terrell Myers. Mr. Terrell worked for the Soil Conservation Service of Jefferson Davis County for more than 30 years. He was a cattle farmer and loved gardening. He was a dedicated member of Carson United Methodist Church and served as Church Treasurer and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Mr. Terrell was also a member of the Mt. Carmel Lodge. He was a Master Mason and served as secretary. Mr. Terrell is surived by his children, Vernon Terrell (Kathy) of Prentiss, Stephen Terrell (Joan) of Sumrall and LeAnn Myers (Dwayne) of Prentiss; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and special friend Evelyn Sills.
