Funeral services were held Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Crossroad Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Sumrall, MS for Mr. Joseph D. “Joe” Nelson, age 69, of Sumrall, MS who passed away on October 26, 2011 at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss, MS. Interment followed at Graves Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Virgil Skipper, Rev. Rockey Colson and Bro. Neal Davis officiated. Pall bearers were Evans Miller, Jared Miller, Bryan McRaney, Mike Norris, Harvey Bennett and Ricky Lee. Joseph Darwin Nelson was born in Collins, MS on March 19, 1942. He was the son of Joseph William Nelson and Lela Coulter Nelson. He worked thirty-three years with Marshall Durbin in Hattiesburg, MS before retiring. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Crossroad Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Minnie Pearl Nelson of Sumrall; his sons, Dickie Davis (Shawna) of Seminary and Jimmy Nelson of Bassfield; his daughters, Teresa Davis of Sumrall, Connie Nelson of Bassfield; Lisa Graves (Peewee) of Seminary, Connita Weber (Roger) of Silver Creek; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; his brothers, Quinton Nelson of Carson and Kenneth Nelson of Collins; and his sister, Norma Mauldin of Seminary.
