Funeral services were held Sunday, September 4, 2011 at New Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Collins, MS for Mr. Thomas Duthiel Davis, age 83, of Prentiss, MS who passed away on August 31, 2011 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Interment followed at New Chapel Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Rodney Bankens and Rev. Ken Hickman officiated. Pall bearers were Tim Gatwood, Tyler Hickman, Jon Harris, Nate Harris, Phil Hickman, Dennon Davis, Davin Lowe and Dathan Lowe. A native of Jefferson Davis County, Thomas Duthiel Davis was born on November 17, 1927. He was the son of Melvin Davis and Myrtie Dossett Davis. Known to his children as “Daddy” and many others as “The People’s Friend”, he was loved by all. He joined the US Marines and served his country for more than twenty years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He later worked with Halliburton offshore as a cook. He was an active member of New Chapel United Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife, Ann Guy Davis of Prentiss, MS; three sons, Herbert “Yogi” Melvin Davis of Hanford, CA, Dennis Davis of Raymond, MS and Chris Brown Davis of Sanford, MS; five daughters, DeEtte Faubel of San Antonio, TX, Danielle Soto of West Covina, CA, Lori Harris of Columbia, MS, Tammy Lowe of San Antonio, TX and Bridgette Bullock of Seminary, MS; a stepdaughter, Deda Mills of Prentiss, MS; two stepsons, Ronnie Gatwood and Guy Gatwood both of Prentiss, MS; thirty one grandchildren and forty one great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam Davis of Prentiss, MS and Rev. Louie Davis of Grand Bay, AL; and a sister, Evelyn Ranager of Prentiss, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
