Vonc "Bonnie" Stephens

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Society Hill Baptist Church for Mrs. Vonc “Bonnie” Stephens, age 87, of Oakvale, MS who passed away on August 28, 2011 at her residence. Interment followed at Society Hill Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Jarrett Stephens, Rev. Lynn Stephens and Rev. Larry D. Armagost officiated. Pall bearers were Eric Stephens, Kyle Stephens, Darren Higgs, Shane Coleman, Kyle English, Gary Dale Williamson and Terry Hamilton. Honorary pall bearers were Deloss Ray Daniels, Dudley Williamson, Junior Herrington, Dr. Brian Dyess and John Wayne Tolar. Vonc “Bonnie” Stephens was born on March 21, 1924 in Carson, MS. She was the daughter of Buford L. Dyess and Lula Mae Johnston Dyess. She and her husband, Shelby, were the owner/operators of Stephen’s Grocery for twenty five years. She was an active member of Society Hill Baptist Church and served on numerous committees. She is survived by her husband, Shelby Stephens of Oakvale, MS; three sons, Lynn Stephens (Mary) of Fleetwood, NC, Glynn Stephens (Cheryl) of Bossier City, LA and William “Big Shot” Stephens of Oakvale, MS; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Flora Barnett of Alexandria, LA and Marie Herrington of Carson, MS; a special nephew, Thomas Higgs (Barbara) of Oakvale, MS and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
