Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, 2011 at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Howard Lane, age 72, of Prentiss, MS who passed away July 8, 2011 at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss, MS. Interment followed at Prentiss Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Ben James officiated. Pall bearers were his grandsons--Robby Adams, Brady Adams, Paul Adams, Taylor Lane, Payton Lane, Parker Lane, and his nephews-- Chandler Brinson and Court Brinson. Mr. William Howard Lane was born in New Hebron, MS on June 8, 1939. He was the son of J. T. and Willie Mae Lane. Howard Lane graduated from New Hebron High School in 1956. He then attended Mississippi College and later earned his B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi. He later attended MSU earning his Master’s Degree in Chemistry and Physics. Mr. Lane started his working career in the early 1960’s as the Principal of Oak Grove High School. He also taught classes at the Junior College level and worked for NASA in Picayune, MS. Mr. Lane and his family moved back to Prentiss in 1966 where he worked as a Process Engineer for St. Regis Paper Mill. Then in 1980, he went to work with Georgia Pacific as the Pulp Mill Superintendent and stayed there until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Lane was a member of Prentiss Baptist Church. He was a deacon and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Prentiss Lion’s Club and a mason. Mr. Lane is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Fran Polk Lane of Prentiss; one daughter, Lisa L. Adams (Rob) of Cookeville, TN; three sons, Mickey Lane (Sonya) of Brandon, MS, Rickey Lane (Allyson) of Columbus, MS and Stephen Lane (Kristal) of Lagrange, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Robby, Brady and Paul Adams, Taylor, Briana, Mandy and Braden Lane, Payton, Parker and Brooklyn Lane, and Hanna, Kayla and Jake Lane. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dewey Lane.
