Funeral services were held on Friday, July 8, 2011 for Mr. Virgil B. Berry, age 80, of New Hebron, MS, who passed away July 4, 2011 at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, MS. Interment followed at New Hebron Cemetery in New Hebron, MS. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Randy Gardner and Rev. Ben James officiated. Pall bearers were Jay Duke, Jason Forrest, Bo Duke, Mike Fortenberry, Mike Jones and Andy Berry. A native of Jefferson Davis County, Virgil Banks Berry was born on November 23, 1930. He was the son of C. E. Berry and Mary Banks Berry. He was a cattle farmer and a member of the Pineywoods Cattlemen’s Association. He also worked part time as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Simpson County for eighteen years. He was member of Old Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Banks is survived by his wife, Maxine D. Berry of New Hebron, MS; one son, Mark Berry of New Hebron; one daughter, Jennie Lee Duke of New Hebron; a step-son, Rocky Duke of Florence, MS; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Lanel Fortenberry of Jackson, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
