Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 08, 2011 at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home Chapel for Mr. Victor J. Jones, age 89, former Mayor of Prentiss, MS, who died June 6, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Interment followed in Hepzibah Cemetery. Dr. Randy Rich and Rev. Ben James officiated. Pallbearers were: Taylor Collins, Patrick Jones, Barrett Jones, Corky Holliman, Cecil Anderson, and Harold Stamps. Victor J. Jones, better known as Vick, was a native of Mississippi, born December 8, 1921 to Percy Jones and Flora Ward Jones. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He served as an Alderman for the Town of Prentiss for nine years and was elected Mayor of Prentiss in 1978 and served in that capacity for 11 years. He was on the CDA Board and a Lions Club Member. He owned a Plumbing Business for 40 years and was serving as Building Inspector for the Town of Prentiss before his death. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening. He was an active member of Prentiss Baptist Church. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Evelyn Jones of Prentiss, MS; one son, Percy Jones of Dahlonega, GA; one daughter, Sherry Collins of Ridgeland, MS; one brother, Felter McLaurin of Aiken, S. C. and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
