Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, 2011 at Victory Baptist Church in Bassfield, MS for Mr. Jim Deen, age 82, who passed away June 1, 2011 at Upshur Manor Nursing Home in Gilmer, TX. Interment followed at Double Church Cemetery in Bassfield, MS. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Rev. Tony Bagley, Rev. Charles Broome and Rev. Tommy Arinder officiated. Pall bearers were Marcus Stephens, Brian Richison, Scott King, Joel McRaney, Kent Carter and Brett McRaney. Honorary pall bearers were Cletus King, W. L. Bagley, Cliff Worth, James Coulter, Hal Bullock and Ricky Ward. James “Jim” Herman Deen was born on November 28, 1928 in Bassfield, MS. He was the son of Stanley Deen and Mamie Magee Deen. Mr. Deen served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner of Deen’s Riverside Restaurant located on Hwy 35 for eleven years. He had also worked as a Truck Driver. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Gilmer, TX. Mr. Deen is survived by his wife, Lois Deen of Gilmer, TX; four daughters, Dianne Markley (Doug) of Sanger, TX, Beverly Stephens of Aubrey, TX, Terri Richison (Rick) of Sargent, TX and Sheril Ray (Richard) of Carrollton, TX; one son, Stephen Andrew (Debbie) of Daingerfield, TX; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Waynet Ward of Hattiesburg, MS, Rheda Bob Brock of Bassfield, MS and Anne Chamblis of Walker, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Flora Deen, two sisters and a brother.
