William J. Holmes

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in New Hebron, MS for Mr. William J. Holmes, age 90, of New Hebron who passed away January 20, 2011 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Rev. Phillip Douglas officiated. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Saulters-Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements. Pall bearers were Steve Cliburn, Kelly Rester, Malcolm Rester, Joey Ashley, Keith Bryant and Samuel Rester. Honorary pall bearers were Clyde Brown, Eddie Gene Douglas, Paul Bryant, Roland Lucky and Glen Grubbs. Mr. William Jefferson Holmes, better known as ‘Pete’, was born September 2, 1920 in Simpson County, MS. He was the son of Norville Virgil Holmes and Maude Mae Rester Holmes. He served in the US Coast Guard and was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired Farmer and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Sabra Buckley Holmes of New Hebron, MS; one daughter, Margaret Holmes of Florence, MS; two grandchildren, Melissa Brunson and Jason Bridges both of Florence, MS and one brother, Calvin Holmes of LaMesa, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
